Extra, Extra: Spring Has (Almost) Sprung Edition

spring.jpg

In which Parisist thinks the loveliest time of the year is the spring. We do! Don't you? 'Course you do!

  • Comme on a déjà mentionné, the city of Paris is taking steps to control the pigeon population, not by poisoning them but by smashing the eggs [fr].
  • This winter has been the warmest on record. But just in time for actual factual calendar spring, and after last week's unbelievably gorgeous weather got all our hopes up, it got cold and grotty again: rain and even snow is in the forecast for this week.
  • Nonetheless, since spring is technically just about here, your landlord can now once again evict you [fr] for non-payment of rent. Yeah, they made a new law to the contrary, but that doesn't go into effect until 2008.
  • If spring makes you want to sing, you can audition [fr] to do so in the métro, starting March 21st.
  • We can't wait for beach volleyball by the Eiffel Tower [fr] and the naked bike ride [fr], but unfortunately both of those are several months away yet.
  • How about a picnic? That is, how about a picnic made entirely of genetically-modified corn (or what you Brits call "maize"), in front of Sarkozy's headquarters? Parisist couldn't make it, but it looks like Greenpeace [fr] had fun.
