Le Réveillon Revealed

newy.jpg
Not up for the crush along the Champs-Élysées this year? We don't blame you. The Champs, quite frankly, is for chumps.

To get you as far from that mess as possible, Parisist suggests the following alternatives to brighten your New Year's Eve:

Option #1: The Karaoke Triumph
What celebration isn't improved by a microphone and your very own backing band? La Flèche D'Or will be starting the Réveillon off with live karaoke courtesy of Ulmann Cabarock. Any brave soul between 20h and midnight can jump up and perform one of the songs listed here. DJs take over from midnight onward playing just about everything. Entry is steep at 40 euros (with 3 drinks), or 90 euros for two people including a bottle of champagne. Get your money's worth by devouring their open buffet before 22h30. Reserve in advance at julie.fleche@orange.fr.

La Flèche D'Or
102 bis rue de Bagnolet, 75020

Option #2: The Brazillian Dancefest
Come dressed in white, as they do for New Year's in Brazil, but be prepared to spill capirinha all over yourself. The Orquestra do Fuba will be putting on a big Brazillian dance party in the northeastern style of forró. Instructions on dancing forró, courtesy of Wikipedia: "Forró is danced in pairs, usually very close together...his right arm around her back and her left arm around his neck; in this style, the man's right leg stays in between the woman's legs, following the African tradition of a close pelvis." Education and eroticism for only 20 euros? Parisist (in both English and French) says Rowrrr...

Studio de l'Ermitage
8 rue de l'ermitage, 75020

Option #3: The Hipster Head-Bob
The It Bar along the northern reaches of the Canal will be hosting one of the cheapest parties in Paris. Entry at the door is just 15 euros (12 in advance) and drink prices will be kept low. Price of admission gets you two dancefloors, chill out room, covered and heated terrasse, and four bars. Over 1000 m2 in all, so bring your friends. Nine DJs, video projection, performances, and the cutest little hipsters in Paris - from 22h to dawn.

Point Ephémère
200 quai de Valmy, 75010

Option #4: The Gypsy Tswing
An oh-so-crazy beatfest with, what else, a Balkan dance troupe in costume. The DJs are advertised as "the kings of dancefloor kustu kustu!!!" And that's good, right? For 18 euros (or buy one ticket online get another free), this is possibly one of the strangest New Year's around.

Le Divan du Monde
75 rue des Martyrs, 75018
