In Homage to Anna Politkovskaya [en]

We're a bit late on this one, but the story is important enough to continue to bring attention to... A demonstration and tribute rally was held in front of Notre Dame cathedral last Wednesday in in homage to Anna Politkovskaya, a recently-assassinated Russian journalist whose articles and books brought attention to crimes against human rights by those in power.
She was found dead in her building on October 7th. The BBC reported that "a pistol and four bullets were found near her body," and that "Ms Politkovskaya's murder has all the hallmarks of a contract killing." Her funeral was on October 10th in Moscow, and her story has generated worldwide attention for the human rights causes that she worked hard to bring attention to.
The newspaper that she wrote for, the Novaya Gazeta, covers her widely-attended funeral. It's written in Russian, but the large number of photos tell the story without words. Last Wednesday's Paris-based memorial for her was covered by Martine Franck for Magnum Photos. The Moscow Times also published an article on her legacy this morning.
